There are a lot of great reasons to schedule a private tour-

Couples, friends, and families will enjoy the intimacy of a private tour.

On a private tour children can be as young as six.

On a private tour inexperienced paddlers may use single kayaks.

You can schedule a sunrise tour with me starting anytime from just before sunrise (private tours can be scheduled for anytime of day but sunrise tours are always private).

On a private tour we can explore exactly what you want, stop where you want, and go at the pace you set.

With private tours we can leave from any spot on the island including the west side and Somes Sound.

And of course you won’t have to paddle around with a bunch of strangers (so distasteful).

Private Morning, Afternoon, and Sunset Tours of Three and a Half Hours (or Less)

The rates for private group tours in the morning, afternoon, or sunset, that depart at the regularly scheduled times from the beach in Bar Harbor at the end of Bridge street which are the regular three and a half hours (or less) are as follows-

One Person- 80--400 dollars

Two People- 100--400 dollars

Three People- 120--400 dollars

Four People- 160--400 dollars

Five People- 200--400 dollars

Six People- 240--400 dollars

Seven people- 280--400 dollars

Eight People- 320--400 dollars

Nine People- 360--400 dollars

Ten People- 400--440 dollars

Eleven people- 440--460 dollars

Twelve People- 40 dollars per person (the same rate as a regular 12 person open group tour)

The price of a private tour varies throughout the season and will depend mostly upon the date on which you want to schedule a tour.  Factors such as the month, the day of the week, holiday weekends, and the availability of guide staff all influence the pricing.

We will not be able to stop on an island on a private tour of less than three and a half hours.

If you choose to have your private tour be less than three hours please be aware that those tours are for people who only want a short taste of kayaking and want to stay close to the mainland shore the entire time.

In most of the months of May and October the private tour prices will be towards the lower end of the price scale while holiday weekends will have them near their highest.

Private Morning, Afternoon, and Sunset Tours Longer Than Three and a Half Hours

The rates for private group tours in the morning, afternoon, or sunset, that are longer than the regular three and a half hours are as follows-

50--150 dollars per hour

The price of the tour will depend upon the number of people in the group as well as the date on which you want to schedule a tour.  Factors such as the month, the day of the week, holiday weekends, and the availability of guide staff all influence the pricing.

Unlike tours of three and a half hours or less these tours require 4 days/96 hours of notice to be cancelled without charge.

In most of the months of May and October the private tour prices will be towards the lower end of the price scale while holiday weekends will have them near their highest.

Private Sunrise Tours

The rates for a private group which schedules to go on a sunrise tour that departs from and returns to the beach in Bar Harbor are as follows-

One Person - 50-85 dollars per hour

Two People- 65-100 dollars per hour

Three People- 70-105 dollars per hour

Four People- 75-110 dollars per hour

Five People- 80-115 dollars per hour

Six People- 85-120 dollars per hour

Seven People- 90-125 dollars per hour

Eight People- 95-130 dollars per hour

Nine People- 100-135 dollars per hour

Ten People- 105-140 dollars per hour

Eleven People 110-145 dollars per hour

Twelve people- 115-150 dollars per hour

Private Nighttime Star Gazing Tours

Night tours are two hours long. Groups of four or more are private by request without any additional charge.

One Person- 160 dollars

Two People- 180 dollars

Three People- 195 dollars

Four or more people- 50 dollars per person

Groups of four or more people can extend their tour up to three and a half hours long at the rate of 70 dollars per person

All private tours are a two hour minimum

Just as with all tours private tours must be at least 3.5 hours long to afford the opportunity of stopping on an island for between 20-40 minutes and I suggest giving yourself this opportunity.

Private tours of at least 4 hours will have the chance to paddle to the cliffs of Long Porcupine Island without stopping on an island.

Private tours of of at least 5 hours long will be able to able to paddle past the cliffs of Long Porcupine and stop for a rest on the picturesque Hop Island.  Please note that a half an hour is spent on the beach in preparation and that these estimates are based on paddling at a leisurely pace.

Just as with the day tours the rate is 7.50 dollars more per person plus 20% gratuity if you pay with a credit card.

Private tours of more than three and a half hours long or private groups with more than twelve people must give 4 days/96 hours of notice to cancel without being charged.

Private groups can be larger than twelve people but I will only take out twelve at a time so the group will have to be broken up into multiple trips.

I could add another guide to the trip and take more people than twelve but having more than twelve people on a trip really just turns it into a noisy cattle drive and I do not recommend it with us or with any other outfitter.

You will often find that other outfitters either don’t offer private tours or require a large group minimum or weeks or more advanced reservation.  Call me and if I have an opening in my schedule I will take any size group without advanced reservation.
